Exotic Thai Food

posted by Jas on Tuesday, February 06, 2007

We came across these exotic Thai food at a local night market in Phuket Town. It was right before supper time, and my appetite was instantly boosted when I saw these "tasty" creatures :p. Not only did I have to snap a few photos of them, but I also tried those oily crunchy legs and heads...NOoooo, I'm just kidding.

This reminds me of my home market in Sisaket in isaan! My mom would get a bag of each kind of insect and we'd eat them before meals - like appetizers! My husband has tried rice bugs but that's all. Thai food is the best! :P Joy

Yeah, the appetite of the Thais for something crawling and insectious is only beaten by the Chinese.

I'd like to think when I get to Asia I'll be able to eat some new creatures, however sitting here at home in the US where I'm so use to processed and packaged foods, it's a long shot!

Dave, I know what you mean. totally understand. Being Chinese Canadian myself, I thought I could eat just about everything, but when I saw those deep fried creatures, my appetite was completely ruined. But these probably taste a bit better than the live ones that people eat on Survivor.

Thai food is my absolute favorite and I have been to Thailand on several occasions (I used to live in South Asia). I am disappointed that I have never tried these b/c really - don't you just think that would be such fun dinner time conversation?
